2010 National Night Out
On Tuesday, October, 2010, neighborhoods throughout San Angelo are being invited to join forces with other communities throughout Texas for the "27th Annual National Night Out" (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the San Angelo Police Department, will involve over 11,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 35 million people are expected to participate in ‘America's Night Out against Crime'. National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Many neighborhoods will be hosting a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, carnivals, flashlight walks, youth activities, and anticrime rallies. Illegal Drug Trafficking in San Angelo
Social and Health Resources Coalition presents Illegal Drug Trafficking in San Angelo Friday, October 8 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. (Come earlier if dining) Rio Concho Manor Recreation Room 401 Rio Concho Dr. San Angelo Guest Speaker: Lieutenant David Howard, Community Services Supervisor, San Angelo Police Department Lieutenant Howard will discuss the various types of illegal drugs found in San Angelo, with an emphasis on the availability and distribution of methamphetamines. ________________________________________ During the presentation, enjoy a delicious buffet provided by McGowen's Catering. The buffet will include at least two meats, vegetables, salad bar, desserts, tea, and coffee. Cost: $6.50 (includes beverage). Lunch is optional for attendees. Bring a brown bag or just bring yourself. At each meeting, attendees are given the opportunity to introduce themselves and give a brief "pitch" regarding the latest development or upcoming event within their organization. Handouts and promotional items are welcome. Feel free to bring a co-worker or family member....everyone is invited! Reservations not required.

Special Reception for Bishop Michael Pfeifer
The Concho Valley CARES Coalition is hosting a reception honoring Bishop Michael Pfeifer on Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 1:00-1:30pm at the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council for the Concho Valley located on 3553 Houston Harte, San Angelo, TX. Bishop Michael Pfeifer founded the Concho Valley CARES Coalition in March 2007 when he called community leaders to action to address the methamphetamine issue in our community. In September 2008, CARES was awarded the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Grant and officially changed its focus to overall substance abuse concerns.
